Emilie just got done eating and that meant I had an hour window to pack them up for the Y, put the laundry in the dryer because I would need the mattress pad by Emilie's first nap. Aubrie dumped out the bin next to the window and I thought, no big deal. We can clean that up before we leave. I ran upstairs to get look for my sunglasses and I got back downstairs and this was going on. I didn't capture it in this photo, but Emilie was trying to use the dog to stabilize herself and stand up.
That's how today got worse. Not yet, though.
I had a good workout at the Y. Emilie and Aubrie were well behaved angels. I ran on the treadmill and got lost in my thoughts. By the time I looked down, I had ran a mile and a half and I needed to stop. I'm still breastfeeding Emilie and my milk supply is getting lower because I've been working out so much...burning calories from both feeding Emilie and working out. Nothing that drinking a lot of water and eating some extra protein can't fix.
We got home and I put Emilie down and Aubrie and I battled at the lunch table. I made her a peena budder sanich and she pigged out on it for about 5 bites and then decided she was done. I tried negotiations. Negotiations are big now. Lemonade for good behavior. Fruit for finishing her meat. Stuff like that. Today was cheese crackers for more bites of her sandwich. Nope. Instead she flipped the plate, sandwich and all, and got a timeout. Luckily this didn't wake up baby sister. We ended lunch with not a lot of eating and an unhappy two year old. Emilie ate her lunch like a champ.
So now I had a 40 minute window where Emilie just finished her lunch and Aubrie needed to go down for her nap and I HAD to go get some groceries. So we ran to the store and they were pretty good. Aubrie talked on her phone (a banana) to her friend Holden. Emilie chewed on my keys. There is a man who works at our neighborhood Kroger who always gives the girls a balloon. He is so sweet. I love our Kroger.
We got home and I took Emilie upstairs with Aubrie to put Aubrie down. The lights were off and we were singing Jesus Loves Me and Emilie was crawling around the room, playing with Aubrie's toys. As we were wrapping it up, she crawled over to the side of the bed and pulled herself to standing. She was watching us and then lost her balance and fell down, like she always does. But this time she hit the wooden bed frame. She cried and I picked her up and soothed her and then we left Aubrie's room and came downstairs. I put her down on the kitchen floor and began to put groceries away and noticed she had what looked like jelly smeared all over her face. Great! Did Aubrie drop her sandwich and Emilie's eating it? Peanut butter??? I bent down and looked at her mouth and it was full of blood. She cut her gums when she fell upstairs. It was a big cut. Vertical. From tooth to the top of the gums.
Example of how Emilie likes to stand up. And yes, that is a yogurt melt stuck to the side of her head. |
And waited.
And waited. It was time for Emilie's second nap so I ended up taking her upstairs and putting her to bed. She seemed fine. She stopped bleeding and nursed fine. By the time I got downstairs the phone rang and the nurse asked if the cut went all the way down to the tooth. Yeeees. Turns out they want me to bring her in for them to see if she needs to go to the hospital for stitches.
EEHH! My stomach turned. I was still in my workout clothes and stinky gross. I had 45 minutes to get the girls up, shower, pack up the diaper bag, and get to the doctor's office on the other side of town.
By the way, Adam was in Chicago.
So I call Adam and he gets his sister to be on standby so that if I have to go to the hospital, she can come pick up Aubrie and take her home so I can focus on Emilie only. I get to the doctors office and it turns out she didn't need to go to the hospital. Had the skin on her gums been a flap, then she would have needed it fixed and they said it was an extensive surgery because they had to make sure her teeth could come in. Poor baby. Thank the Lord it turned out ok and we didn't have to go to the hospital.
The evening got a little better. We did chick-fil-a for dinner since I had to fight rush hour traffic and it was getting late. Then I put the girls down a little earlier than usual just because they got cheated on naps. Adam was supposed to fly in at 7:15 but he got delayed and didn't get in until 7:45. He texted me and told me he was a couple of blocks away while I was tucking Aubrie in. So I let her sit up and we opened the window upstairs and were looking out. We talked about the noises we heard and the things we saw. Then his cab pulled up and she gasped, "It's daddy!!!" She enjoyed yelling out the window to him and she then met him at the top of the stairs. I was equally as excited to have him home.
What took away the stress from the day, for me, was laying down next to Aubrie and listening to her sing all three verses of Jesus Loves Me this evening. Her voice is so sweet and so is her innocence.
I'm off to the couch for a piece of cake and some trashy, mindless t.v.
Love to all!! Pin It Now!
